iDocket.com avoids $500K upgrade with RPG2SQL Integrator

Traditionally, people request information in the public domain by mail or in person at the courthouse. Amarillo, Texas-based iDocket.com provides a convenient alternative: immediate online access to public event records and data from more than four million criminal, civil and probate court cases across 30 Texas counties. As additional Texas counties come on board, iDocket.com is planning its nationwide expansion.

Smart data capture

iDocket.com writes programs that extract data from computer systems of participating county or district courthouses at a set time every night. The programs format the data to meet iDocket.com requirements, send it via FTP to iDocket.com and merge it into the case information database.

iDocket.com provides users with free access to basic data, and more detailed information to subscribers.

Growing pains

With its ever-expanding database, users and subscribers, iDocket.com was processing nearly 20,000 searches a week in May 2005, when search result return times reached unacceptable lengths of more than three minutes during peak hours.

A calculated business move

To improve search response times, iDocket.com considered purchasing a more powerful server, but found that an adequate upgrade would be cost prohibitive at more than $500,000.

For a fraction of the cost, the company implemented the RPG2SQL Integrator, which seamlessly shifted name searches from their previously overworked System i server to dedicated PCs.

Substantial win-win

With RPG2SQL Integrator in place, users benefit from search response times of less than 20 seconds during peak hours. Plus, the system will accommodate the company's future growth, as iDocket.com adds users and data from counties throughout Texas and the rest of the nation.
