Data sharing gives Grocery Outlet the competitive edge
Headquartered in Berkeley, Calif., Grocery Outlet is the nation's largest grocery extreme-value retailer, with 177 stores, 450,000 daily sales transactions, and annual revenues exceeding $600 million. The company depends upon sales data to deliver what their customers want, when they want it, and at the right price.
Smarter, not harder
Each Monday, Grocery Outlet manually retrieved, verified and summarized each store's sales data. The cumbersome process consumed two business days, and required purchasing agents to wait before gaining access to product sales performance results.
On a quest for a more efficient solution, Grocery Outlet discovered and implemented the RPG2SQL Integrator. The software easily integrates new data sources into existing System i inquiry and report programs. As a result, data from cash registers that has been exported and summarized, can be queried with minimal effort from System i.
Power in numbers
Now, rather than spend two days on data retrieval and summarization processes, Grocery Outlet can focus on strategy.
"When buyers ask for sales data, I can get it for them much more easily with RPG2SQL Integrator in place," says Grocery Outlet developer Maggie Jacobs. Buyers leverage the information to align product offerings with customer buying patterns.
Competitive edge
Convenient access to sales data also helps Grocery Outlet uphold their competitive edge, with more efficient operations that ultimately translate to deeper discounts for customers, increased sales, and higher profits.
